Hello,

I’m Luke Kilpatrick – ocean explorer, underwater photographer, boat nerd, and the proud creator of the Mia Kingtide book series.

For over a decade, I’ve been diving the California coast, capturing the magic beneath the surface through my lens – from playful sea lions and graceful kelp forests to the quiet majesty of giant sea bass. The ocean has always been my sanctuary, my curiosity engine, and the place where I feel most at home. You can purchase my art from the gallery hosted by art storefronts.

My passion for storytelling and ocean conservation collided when I began writing the Mia Kingtide series. Inspired by real adventures with my daughter, Mia, these books follow a brave, ocean-loving girl who discovers she can speak to sea creatures. The stories are packed with real science, unforgettable sea life, and heart-thumping adventure – all grounded in the very places I explore, dive, and photograph.

When I’m not writing or behind a dive camera, you’ll find me out on the water aboard Pitter Patter, my trusty Shamrock 260 Express. She’s perfect for day trips around Monterey Bay and is available to rent on Boatsetter for anyone looking to experience the bay like a local. For those who prefer to enjoy the view from land, I also host guests at The Ocean View at Monterey Bay, our ocean-inspired Airbnb retreat where the sunrises are golden and the whales often wave hello.

Whether you’re here to dive, cruise, stay, or explore the world of Mia Kingtide, welcome aboard.

Let’s go find wonder beneath the waves.

— Luke
